Хм... может быть.
К палочке то они уже привычны.

А может быть человек в респираторе, или других средствах защиты, воспринимается как сигнал опасности.

Типа - внимание, тут яд!
И подсознательно курильщик напрягается, ведь он не думает о табаке, как о яде.
